Friday Aug. 31

Thoughts from a few students:

We went to the computer lab today! -Ciklali

We learned about tens and ones, ten frames, and bundling in math. -Delaney

We read the story Chrysanthemum. It's about a mouse who loves her unique name. Then she starts school and the other students make fun of her name.
We each had a paper heart that we got to crumple up each time Chrysanthemum's feelings were hurt in the story. In the end, Chrysanthemum's music teacher makes her feel better about her name because she has a really long name too and her name is a flower also.
Then we wrote about the beginning, middle, and end of the story. -Hunter

Mrs. Powell's class invited us over at the very end of the day to watch the vide of Chrysanthemum. We really enjoyed it. -The Whole Class

We all got to go to the treasure box! - Caden

Our First Day

We had a great first day in First Grade! Below are some photos of most of our activities today. I take a lot of pictures each day so I can share with you what we are learning.
  • We drew a picture of ourselves on the first day of school.
  • We went to music class.
  • We reviewed the letters A and B. Then in our writing notebooks we practiced our handwriting and brainstormed words that started with those letters.
  • We read a story called The Day the Monster Came to School. Then we sequenced 6 pictures from the story.
  • We made class graph of how we go home.
  • We had a fire drill. We read a story called, The Night Before First Grade.
  • We practiced all our procedures such as "Hallway Procedures", "Lining up Procedures", "Carpet Procedures", "Cafeteria Procedures"...
  • We learned about our behavior clip chart. Everyone had a "Super Student" day. :)
  • Chloe is a friend in our class who has diabetes. She shared with us a wonderful book about diabetes and showed us how she checks her blood. The class was very interested and listened wonderfully to Chloe as she explained to the class. She was a wonderful teacher about diabetes. Great Job Chloe!
  • We packed up to go home and everyone got in their bus, van, car, or made it to ACES smoothly.
Thanks to the kids for being such great listeners and hard workers. I can't wait for tomorrow! :)

WELCOME

A little over a week until I get to welcome 21 sweet faces into my newly moved in to classroom! I moved to a bigger and better room over the summer. Long hours have been put it to make it perfect. (Well worth the time spent.) Thanks to my wonderful husband, my mom, and my two kiddos (Who am I kidding? The kids didn't help, if anything they sometimes made it harder...so Thanks to my Mother-in-Law for babysitting so I could go to school kid-free! Below are some photos of our classroom.
